Cool option: Ice-makers at Games sites on cards

NEW DELHI: The summer heat seems to have caught up with Commonwealth Games officials. As part of the Games preparation, Delhi government is planning to procure ice-making machines in "large quantities''. The cause visiting officials of the Commonwealth Games Federation have asked the government to make sure ice is easily available to athletes during the Games. The request apparently came up in a meeting with health officials late last week.

Special task force to oversee Commonwealth Games security

New Delhi: The Centre has decided to set up a multi-agency Special Task Force (STF), comprising Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel, to take charge of security and traffic management during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.  Besides having the entire Delhi Police at its disposal, the STF will also have thousands of paramilitary personnel - mainly drawn from CRPF and CISF - and intelligence officials from IB at its command.

Kalmadi assures security for CWG

New Delhi: IOA chief Suresh Kalmadi, in an exclusive chat with espnstar.com, said the security for the CWG is well in place. "We had many meetings with the Lieutenant Governor, who is responsible for security and the Secretary of the Home Ministry. With every incident, our security has been upgraded."

Security for 2010 Delhi Games in place: Sports Minister

New Delhi: Sport Minister MS Gill on Monday said security concerns raised by Commonwealth Games officials were "hypothetical" and that there need not be any apprehensions over the safety and security during the 2010 New Delhi Games.
